Excellent
This small manual has not many pretencies. Its goal is to teach the Yang short form and this is exactly what it does. The author's teaching method is smart and effective. Contrary to many other TaiChi manuals, it clearly explains how to distribute the weight among the feet and how to match the breathing to the movements. An excellent complement to TaiChi actual training.

Tai Chi...I Can...You Can
At last! Help in simple language to introduce and instruct beginners in this lovely and healthful form of gentle exercise.Robert Parry understands how to take the confusing element out of tai chi and put it in the reach of anyone who is serious about the form. Step by step instructions are easily understood due to the author's simplfied illustrations and text. I recommend this book to everyone who is looking for an informative, comprehensive, easy to understand guide book for tai chi.

Teaches the Real philosphical basis and preparatory exercise
This is an unusual text by a true master. Written in astraightforward manner it gets to the heart of the philosophy and meaning of Tai Chi Kung. It also the only text I know of which details numerous preparatory exerices to develop the proper stretch, strength and internal muscle development to accomplish the goals of Tai Chi Kung.

One of the books you will re-read time and time again
Amazing philosophy book in application of the esoteric concepts of Dr.Sohns approach to Tai Chi!!

Incredible
This book is the only English picture book that introduces Japanese that I have ever seen. John's sketches show his understanding of the Japanese language well. What also makes the book special is John's position in Japanese life. He learned Japanese as a foreigner looking at Japan.

Reading it will be a source of enjoyment for everybody whether beginner or advanced in Japanese.

Thank you John for such a wonderful expression of Ai.

great follow up
this is the first series i have started in my new found fandom of the anime/manga world, and i love this series. Its funny, sexy, and a good story overall. In this, the second installment of the series, we find that three months have passed since Aoi and Kaoru have last seen each other. Aoi has gotten permission to stay with kaoru, but when they reach his house all his stuff is gone. A note tells him to go to a certain adress that just happens to be a summer home of the Sakuraba family, and who is waiting for them. None other than Miyabi. Miyabi puts out flyers that the mansion is a new appartment complex and is looking for tenants and Kaoru is forced to sleep in the servants quarters while his new girlfreind, Aoi, stays with Miyabi in the mansion. Things start to heat up when a friend and classmate of Kaoru, Tina Foster (an american raised in Japan), moves in with them. Soon they are joined by another classmate, i forgot her name, who is beautiful, kind, and downright clutzy. She comes seeking a job as a Maid and barely passes the tests Miyabi gives her.
overall I thought that this manga was just great and i would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Romanc/Coemdy manga.

Great, great material
I really loved the practical side to this book. The T'ai Chi forms are particularly beautiful and the supplementary exercises made my legs MUCH stronger. Incredible that something so simple could work as well as it did! It's only downside is a lack of explanation beyond the individual moves. If you are looking for an historical reference, this isn't it. If you want to learn T'ai Chi, this is the one. I recommend this for beginners as well as instructors.

Foundations of T'Ien-T'Ai Philosophy: The Flowering of the Two Truths Theory in Chinese Buddhism

6th Century Chinese Buddhist thought, served in small bites.
This book will be of interest to those engaged in Chinese philosophy and Ch'an or Zen meditation practice. Swanson writes very well on an unquestionably difficult topic, presenting one particular slice (Two Truths Theory) of that great Buddhist systematizer, Chih-I.

China was a hotbed of sutras, treatises, and meditation practices in the Sixth Century. Zen practitioners will note that this was the time of the Third Patriarch, Hui-Neng. The most attractive feature of this presentation is that the reader gets some good looks at Chih-I's source material, the totality of Buddhist ideas and attitudes that prevailed in China at that time. The mechanical differences between the views of Hinayana and Mahayana on the same subjects are discussed in ways that are both convincing and thought-provoking.

You read this book with a marking pen in your hand. When you think you have "grokked" the text, you flip to the marvelous "system" charts in the back o! f the book for the summary look.

Meditators will easily recognize the sources of their methods in the many concepts presented.

a must-have classic!
I don't like giving out 5 stars but this book deserves them! NOT intended for beginners, this book is the only English source for information on the "jings" or skills involved in practicing real taiji. I really like how the author separates the translation from his commentary. This makes it easier to know who is saying what. An excellent reference, especially for those trying to understand how to perform correct tui shou.

Momentary Reflection on Movement: The Spirit of T'Ai Chi
Published in Paperback by Astrolog Pub House (September, 2001)
Author: David Michaeli
Amazon base price: $8.95
Used price: $4.72
Buy one from zShops for: $6.89
Average review score:

Connections, knowledge, and understanding
David Michaeli blends poetry, art, and the essence of T'ai Chi into a slim but weighty book. He moves the reader along a circular path of knowledge, sensation, movement, and understanding with gently paced words. He acknowledges that living in a modern world is often like straddling a gulf created by inner and outer tensions. Michaeli's teachings suggest that we stand in the center of all directions and energies. From this center, we can create an axis of equilibrium. It is not required to read this book from front to back. It may be enjoyed by topic or simply page by page. This is not an ordinary self-help book. It does not include written rules or recipes, but if you are open to sensations and perceptions, it may open a door of self-understanding.
