United States Air Force Search and Rescue Survival Training
This is a grate book for outdoors people! It has all the Need To Know information you need.

A Great Survival Reference
I was impressed with the variety of survival subjects covered in this regulation. Written from the perspective of both the downed aircrewman and the USAF search and rescue team member, it goes beyond the Army Survival Manual and it takes a different view than that of the SAS Survival Guide. This book has gained a place in my survival library and I highly recommend it.

Skulin back to his best
An outstanding book, "Mµnd" offers some pretty major insights into practically all areas of life. If you're looking for some guidance or some provocation; if life is stagnating, or directions are multiplying and you're wondering which path to choose; or even if you're just looking to read some decent gobbledygook; you couldn't do better than Skulin.

Much Overlooked Official History
It seems that official history prepared by the various US Government branches and departments is highly prone to being ignored by the mainstream press and even the specialist press concerned with these matters may overlook them. Even though the US Government Printing Office is one of the most professional outfits I know of in preparing and presenting manuscripts, its marketing seems to be greatly lacking. Whether this is due to congressional policy or not I have not a clue.
That said, this book deserves a much wider audience than it appears to have gotten. Even as a serving professional intelligencer I never heard of it when it first came out in 1996. I finally discovered it while browsing the GPO site in 1998 and now I am told it is out of print already. Well, that is a shame, for this is the best overview of process, organizational history, and the effects of intelligence use during WW II that I have seen.
Because many of the methods of aerial reconnaissance are the same regardless of service, the methods given herein are just as relevent to the Navy as to the Army. Because the AF was part of the Army in WW II, the interaction of the air intelligence with that of the Military Intelligence Division of the General Staff is covered thoroughly and the development of the two is brought forward from WW I.
The volume is also valuable in that, in contrast to earlier works, it shows how thoroughly SIGINT was integrated into the total intelligence web and was used in such a manner as not to compromise the source. Thus, whenever, a convoy sailed from Italy to North Africa, the Allies were careful to send out a recon aircraft to spoof the targeted vessels.
Each theatre of operations is covered and the often tangled web of intrigue in the Far East is unraveled at last. Or at least as well as it can be.
It is difficult to imagine that at this late date, there will ever appear a stash of documents that will require this work to be revised. As definitive as we are likely to get on this period. A must for the shelf of the completist student of operations and organization and methods.

Childhood on the Western reaches of memory
Yay! Cyra McFadden's memoir is back in print! I had snapped up all the used hardcover editions I could find a few years ago when I heard it was out of print. But why?

Because this slim memoir is the kind of story that unfolds in the reader's head like a gorgeously-shot film, one that's perfectly cast and shot on locations that evoke the internal emotions of its characters to stunning effect. Cher once actually owned the movie rights on this book, then I heard nothing more of it. Her instincts were right on. If there was ever a book that cried out to be adapted into a film or a play, this is it.

McFadden grew up in the West, the daughter of Cy Taillon, a legendary rodeo announcer and his wife Pat, a one-time showgirl with charisma enough to match her husband's. Cyra grew up a little cowgirl gypsy, as the family roamed the Western rodeo circuit together by car in the 1940's.

McFadden's eye for detail in regard to smells, sounds and her childhood consciousness is extaordinary, as is her realistic depiction of her parents' tumultuous love for one another that is the basis of the story and McFadden's adult questing. The smell of cattle, the sonorous voice of her father, the taste of all-hours road food and the touch of sequins on her mother's old costume gowns....this book is filled with details that will linger in your imagination for years. Old family photos accompany the text and they are intimate and haunting. All is told in a voice that is unsparingly honest, as well as sympathetic. McFadden cherishes her vagabond childhood and gives us a technicolor look at the richness of its place and time.

Buy this book if you love a well-written memoir. Or buy it because you love the West. Buy it because you love cowboys and showgirls and all-night trips down dusty highways. But buy it, and many copies of it, because you will want your friends to experience its cinematic poignancy after the movie in your head ends.

Obviously, one of my all-time favorite pieces of writing. Woefully under-read and underappreciated, I encourage English teachers to consider this in a curricula on memoir writing. It is lasting stuff.

Stjärnor utan svindel : roman

Courage to make cuestions
"Stjärnor utan svindel" is a beautiful and delicate story about a relation developing between two, at first sight, very different women. One of them, Kaja, is a radical lesbian leftist and somewhat of a bohemian. The other, Sofie, comes from the upper class and is used to live a comfortable life with her boyfriend and their two dogs. They first meet in a television program where they part in a debate, since they are both feminists, although they have very different viewpoints. For Sofie and Kaja the changes in their lives are radical, and they have to fight for their love when not all of the people around them wants to accept it. The book shows us how new worlds can develop for us if we are brave enough to question the life we live and let other people into them. I think the story is very hopeful and inspiring, and it is written in a language that is easy to read without being too sentimental or romantic. I would like to recommend it to everyone who sometimes thinks about what it would be like to live another kind of life, and to anyone that has the courage not to take a traditional familylife for certain.

Beautiful, fascinating photos, detailed text, overview weak
This is a rare good book. We have too little exposure to the great arts of Africa; this book is a remedy. ABy linking the art chosen to the royalty of West Afarica kingdoms, whe illustrates how close the connections were between power and art; power including raeligious and ritual power as well as temporal. The book lacked only an overview analysis to tie all the sections together amorae firmly.

excellent, difficult to find quality like this.
One of the finest books on African Art I have studied. I showed my copy to a business assoicate from the Republic of Congo. She is from the Kuba tribe and deals in art from this area. She asked me to get a copy for her work and a friend of hers wanted another copy. If the African people approved of the book, what else can I say. Top reference book.

A very useful book to have -
This book is about Nikkor AF Lenses which were made up until 1997 for 35mm Nikon SLRs. It contain views of several professionals, but mainly of the author. I have cross-checked it and it is consistent with some other professional photographers whom I know use Nikon SLRs and optics. As a seriously serious amateur photographer, this book has saved me headaches. It has helped me to purchase right and excellent lenses. For instance, over several years after first reading the descriptions in this book, I have bought three additional lenses (105mm - macro, 80-200 F2.8 AFD zoom and 24mm). These optics have made considerable difference to the results that I am getting now compare to previously when I have used the normal Nikkor lenses. The pictures are stunningly sharp the way I like them most.

The author goes into details describing the pros and cons of each and every lens in terms of optical quality, usages and some interviews with the professional photographers who are using Nikon equipment. He also desrcibes the handling of each lens.

Whether or not I had a direct contact with professional photographs, this book is very useful. It guided me to make the right decision about purchasing the Nikon AF optics. Once I have made the decision to purchase a specific lens, then I've concentrated on getting it for the right price. I've saved money more than the price of this book in a single purchase !

What would be really useful, for such a book to be also available on a CD and the updates available via the internet, as the Nikkor lenses are hitting the market at a pace at which the old fashioned style books cannot keep up with !
