The book, The Fall of Milosevic, by Dragan Bujosevic and Ivan Radovanovic describes the two hours of the afternoon on October 5, 2000, when the hold on power that Slobodan Milosevic and his regime of 13 years had in Yugoslavia, fell to the ground. Inside the pages you get a detailed look at what exactly happened on all sides of the conflict those two hours. The book focuses on how the police, miners, protestors and citizens united peacefully to overthrow Milosevic and his corrupt cronies.

This event in 2000 is called by a variety of names, revolt and revolution to putsch and coup d'etat. It re-walks the steps of many different people that day and what their experiences were. This book is the outcome of conversations with 60 people-politicians, police, soldiers, and members of the public-who were in Belgrade that day.

"The goal of this book is that, by drawing on the accounts of the participants, laying them out and revealing them as far as possible, dispelling the abundant rumors, and, probably most important of all, demonstrating that October 5 was a personal story for every one of the hundreds of thousands of participants."

Each chapter in this book discusses a different conflict that happened that led to the fall of Milosevic out of power. For instance one major turning point was an incident that occurred in the city of Kolubara. There was an organized strike launched in the city of Kolubara at a coal mine by the Milosevic opposition. When Milosivic heard of what was happening he ordered his police to open fire on the demonstrators. The police however had different plans, they decided they couldn't fire upon their own people and decided to lay idol instead, which just fueled the fire that led all the way to Belgrade.

Another example was the battle for parliament which was over in exactly 37 minutes. Although the government tried controlling the situation with chemical gases the people still prevailed. This book goes to show that with a very well organized body with the right leaders can accomplish leaps and bounds. How these opposition groups joined forces and decided that something needed to be done was spectacular.

The authors of this book, Dragan Bujosevic and Ivan Radovanovic are both involved in journalism in and about Serbia. Dragan is now deputy editor in chief of NIN, a leading magazine, and host of a television political talk show in Belgrade. Ivan has reported on several of Serbia's various wars in the Balkans, he is also a novelist, and is education coordinator for journalists at Media Center Belgrade.

Overall this book did a great job pointing out exactly what occurred in this situation with great detail. The sources for the information provided in the text are first hand. I believe that this book adds a great perspective to the field of conflict studies. Revolts are a diamond in the rough and the study of them will be never ending. I would recommend any individual who is interested in learning more about revolutions and how they occur and prevail, read in this book about the conflict that occurred in Yugoslavia one October afternoon in 2000.

It's not just for the old!--Ways to enrich life

Paul Tournier has written a book designed to enrich the life of every adult. In "Learn To Grow Old," he shares the wisdom of the art of preparing for old age, a phenomemon that most of us will experience, but for which few of us will be ready. As his book reveals, preparing for old age will actually make our young adulthood as well as our mature years more rewarding as a result. Using leisure time most effectively is a learned behavior, as is enjoying the good of what life offers. Most of us pass rapidly by the joys of life in our rush to one appointment or another, one task, one volunteer session, one social event, and the like. Tournier reminds us concretely and thoroughly that the time to live life to the fullest is in the present, in anticipation of a richer future.

World-reknowned as a psychologist and author, Tournier's authority comes in part from his background in psychology, practice in medicine, knowledge of humanity, and religion. His is sound advice and he has unforgettable wisdom to share.

A weapon against growing repression

Under the guise of "homeland security" the US government has made unprecedented legal attacks on the civil liberties and civil rights of the people of this country. From immgrants to librarians, from union activists to anyone who talks on the telephone, covert and overt attacks on the civil rights of Americans continue to grow. Their target is not "terrorists" but against the threat of working class resistance to the growing attacks on living conditions. They are afraid the entire working class will follow the example immigrants are setting by coming into direct action against them, rather than depending on the Republicans and Democrats who are in the pockets of the rich.

This book documents the historic victory the Socialist Workers Party won in its suit against the US government's illegal Cointelpro attacks on the SWP and on the trade union, Black liberation, women's right, and antiVietnam war movements the SWP was a part of. Read these documents, and you will see that the FBI and the other federal agencies have no concern for "law and order," or "terrorism." Their real concern is to do whatever they can get away with inside and outside the law to disrupt struggles in the interests of working people.

Read this book so you will know not only of these crimes of the FBI and the government in the past, but so you will know how to fight them now and in the future.

I have had this book for many years but recently, unfortuantely lent it to someone who says they do not have it, so I'm desperate for another copy. Its one of those serious and very funny books, especially the David/Goliath story that gets reversed and the Scattered Umbrellas story which coming from England gets thought about such a lot, I must relate the story so many times to peole as they gain and lose umbrellas, as you know we love to talk about weather in England. Can u help me get a copy

Reinharz' book doesn't only study feminism and social research yet it presents many ideas and voices within her book on various research topics and discussions. I think it is essential for any social researcher to read this book since it is a pluralistic volume of many different, controversial yet unique voices and human intellect that inspires the reader. Any questions and problematic issue is delivered in this book with careful and enlarged examination of literature related to the issue. Especially those who want to understand and learn about feminism and social sciences research through multi-foci examination should read this book.

This is one of the best books i have read, and re-read. It provides the reader with an insight to the political and social thought of Fidel Castro as the title suggests as well as his role in modern world politics. This intriguing book is a most for all pro Castro supporters, anti-Castro critics and anybody interested in Fidel, the Cuban Revolution and political science

Hot Spots opens your eyes, maybe too wide, to what really goes on "out there"; on the front lines, in rebel camps, back streets, jungles and the least visited parts of the world. The author and his friends are ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances and what they see and learn makes you stop and think. What happens next puts any cliches you may expect to rest. This is real life at its worst and best. Maybe made understandable by the authors extraordianry grasp of description and honest communication. A great read when you start taking being alive and safe for granted
