I'm a teenage girl who loves to read Everything!! Summer 1990 was unique and totally up-to-date. The author is from Kuwait, which is also a first. Besides telling the story of the Gulf War, it also has an exciting plot and events. Once you start reading it, you can't put it down. It's a real page turner.

What a great idea, having a whole years worth of Sunset magazine recipes in one book. I always save the magazines but sometimes I can't remember what issue a certain recipe was in and I waste time hunting for it. This selection of recipes is varied so there is definately something for any occasion. Sunset recipes are exciting and new but contain helpful hints that make me feel very comfortable. I have no problem trying out their new recipes on company. I only stumbled upon this book last year, but now want to continue purchasing them annually.

I truly love these annuals, and it shows. Every one of my Sunset Annuals is spattered and bookmarked, because I use them so often.

These are well bound, highly colorful editions, filled with the years collection of Sunset recipes. They are catalogued by ingredients ( vegetables, fruits, beef etc) as well as by category, so looking up a recipe is easy.

The Biga Bread recipe is worth the price alone. Everything is well laid out, with lots of helpful hints to ensure success, whether you're baking a cake, or creating an exotic Asian dish.

What I appreciate most about Sunset, is all their recipes are tested in their own kitchens, to make sure the average home user can recreate them easily. It gives you that extra bit of confidence when trying something new.

If you want a durable, practical and highly usable cookbook, I recommend giving the Sunset Annuals a try.

We bought this book because our stack of 1998 Sunset Magazines took up too much room and we could never remember which edition contained our favorite recipies. Of the two book shelves of cookbooks we have this is the book we pull out the most. Along with the great recipies it is well organized, contains educational cooking tips, wine pairing suggestions, and interesting articles about areas for vacationing and dining in the West. Our favorite recipie is the Oven-roasted Chilean Seabass! We're buying the 2000 and 2001 editions today.

Horror on the small screen...

People seem to enjoy being scared out of their wits. Big-budget movies have done it with relative ease, but trying to portray terror in a 30 or 60 minute TV show, complete with commercials, is a bit more difficult. There have been some major successes ("Kolchak: The Night Stalker", "The X-Files", "Buffy" and "Angel", but there have been some real dogs ---anyone remember 'Manimal'? This author presents the definitive work on TV horror shows, starting with Rod Serling's "Night Gallery." He reviews each episode, gives complete cast/crew credits, and doesn't waste words in analyzing each show. "Boos" and "ghouls" of all ages will find this a treasure-trove of TV terror.

There are many of us who grew up with, and absolutely love, the TV shows that gave us goosebumps and nightmares in our youth. While some of the older shows (like Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits) have been exhaustively written about in both books and magazines, later fright fests have been largely ignored by scholars and historians. That's where this excellent book comes in. Starting in the year 1970, Terror Television gives in-depth coverage to all of the American horror programs that follow. Each decade is well-represented and includes the famous (Rod Serling's Night Gallery, Kolchak The Night Stalker [70's]; Tales from the Crypt, The Hitchhiker [80's]; Twin Peaks, X-Files [90's]), the not-so-famous-but-known-by-fans (Ghost Story, The Sixth Sense [70's]; Freddie's Nightmares, Monsters [80's]; Nightmare Cafe, Dark Shadows [90's]), and the downright obscure (does anyone remember the U.S. airing of Australia's Evil Touch in '73?). In all, Muir delves into twenty seven shows and icludes a section on critical reception, format, history, his own critical commentary, and (an extremely useful) episode guide for each. He's a fine writer who clearly has an extensive knowledge of (and unbridled enthusiasm for) his topic. I love this book and, if you're a fan of these kinds of shows, you should have this on your shelf at home. It's the kind of book that one returns to often.

The Audi 100, 200 Official Factory Repair Manual 1989, 1990, 1991 is the most comprehensive repair manual offered for the Audi. As many Audi owners know, Chilton nor Haynes does not offer a repair manual for the 100 or 200. However, this manual covers every repair and maintanance detail in an easy to read and navigate manual. This IS the manual used by Audi Dealer Service Centers. It is a must-have for owners of the 100 or 200 who prefer to repair thier own automobiles.

This book is a must-have for Audi 100 or 200 owners. If you would like to work on this car yourself, I highly recommend buying this book even before you pop the hood. The exploded views of parts and detailed information provided in this book makes it a godsend to those of us who are brave enough to fix these beasts!

If you own the car, you should own this manual. For those of you who own these cars, and need service, you will be much better prepared for dealing with a mechanic. Fluids specs, full description of features, and service recommendations are included. For those of you who will work on their own car, you will find the "german method" the only method for completing the work. An absolute godsend when installing stereos, etc, as the each of the approximately 2 billion VW/AUDI clip styles are covered (okay, I exaggerated)These manuals are derived from the manuals supplied to the dealers. Worth every cent.

What a timely book!! Too bad that Cuba is no longer on the UN Security Council--its revolutionaries are badly needed to tell the truth, as they did thirteen years ago when the US was poised to attack Iraq in the Gulf War. As the documents in this book show, they were the only ones who had the guts to take on the US in the United Nations--not from a fake antiwar stance as the governments of France and Germany do today--but from the standpoint of international working-class solidarity. This books shows why the US is once again beating the war drums and it also shows why the US government can't stand Cuba. Viva Cuba! Bring the troops home NOW!

Cuba Exposes U.S. Aims

An excellent background to the current U.S. plans to attack and occupy Iraq. Drawn from the debate in the United Nations Security Council in 1990, this book highlights the revolutionary role of Cuba, which was then a member of the Security Council.

Cuban Representative Ricardo Alarcón asked, "Is it really the need to promote respect for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states that motivates the United States? Or is it the ambition of the United States to intervene and dominate the Middle East?"

This book, which includes speeches by Fidel Castro as well as Alarcón, will help clarify the real aims of the imperialists' first war against Iraq, as well as the second one.

We need this book now to oppose the War Against IRAQ

Review Date: 2003-02-14
With US Imperialism preparing a war in the Middle East that will dwarf the Gulf War discussed here, this book is needed just as much as it was needed during the Gulf War. The leaders of the Cuban revolution in the UN and beyond pointed out then, and point out today that the real objectives of imperialism in this war are nothing less than a colonial conquest of the one of the richest oil countries on Earth. Listen to these voices, not the lies of Emron-paid-for-my-campaign Bush when you consider what the coming war is all about. Listen to these voices and understand that no matter how bad the regime in Iraq is, the struggle of the Iraqi people is part of the struggle of all the peoples of Africa, Asia, and Latin America to throw off the economic and political domination of the imperialist countries of Europe, North America, and Japan. Read these words and join the struggle against imperialist war and for the self-determination of the oppressed of the Earth!

Brian Rogers, a retired military pilot and accomplished aircraft photographer, puts the most important research in recent times onto paper. This illustrated historical reference, by an AMERICAN author, lays out the U.S. Air Force's squadron, group and wing structure leaving no doubt about its completeness. This monumental work should be on the shelf of every enthusiast AND professional military historian.

This book is for those interested in the US Air Force and its units. Within its 272 pages the reader will find an absolutely incredible amount of information about the U.S. Air Force's Wings, Groups and Squadrons. Dates, aircraft, bases, tailcodes, it's all in here. Although it contains 16 pages of color pictures of aircraft, its value comes from the wealth of data presented in tabular form. Written by a career USAF officer, this book carries a weight of authority not matched in a lot of other efforts in this area. This work is a gold mine for the historian, those interested in USAF squadron lineages or even those who just want to identify aircraft in photographs accurately. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for those who follow Air Force unit histories and lineages.

The U. S. Air Force has a certain tendancy to change it's markings from time. This means that a single aircraft may well have several paint jobs over its life as the united are reorganized, as aircraft are moved between units, or seemingly at the whim of various commanders.

This book provides a complete record of what units, what units flew what planes, from what bases at what times, with what kinds of markings. There are two color sections illustrating virtually every type of aircraft in the air force inventory.

This book represents a wealth of information that should prove invaluable to anyone attempting to identify aircraft seen in strange places and in unknown photographs. The material is presented in tabular form, so that it doesn't make for casual reading. The book is organized into three sections. First is the tabular data covering every USAF wing, group, squadron and detachment that was active and had assigned aircraft since 1978. Second is an index of aircraft markings. Third is a chronology showing when major events of the Air Force reorganization took place.

This is information simply not available anywhere else.

a goldmine of helpful ideas for beginning teachers...
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-08-07
In addition to more seriously theoretical works such as The Rhetoric of Fiction and The Rhetoric of Irony, Booth has left us with many essays that deal with the practical aspects of teaching literature and writing. This book is one of the collections of such essays. In this regard, Booth in this book can be grouped together with Gerald Graff and Robert Scholes, who have more recently published books on closely related topics (English as a discipline, teaching English/writing).

I cannot but suspect that Booth is somewhat unjustly under-appreciated among teachers of English. In the Pedagogy/Teaching Practicum class I was in, for instance, Booth was never even mentioned (except by me) while both Graff and Scholes were read and discussed seriously. From my experience of reading all three, however, I am sure that, as far as the "ideals" of teaching composition classes is concerned, Booth offers the most helpful and insightful ideas.

One essay, originally a speech given to the freshman class of the University of Chicago in 1970, "What's Supposed to Be Going on Here?," is especially noteworthy. In the space of 9 pages, Booth succinctly delineates the goals and methods of liberal education. What he suggests is specific enough to be readily applicable in any freshman composition classes, and yet at the same time, is so widely encompassing to be read as a moving statement on "the aim of education."

I began teaching a year ago and have taught three composition classes so far. Whenever I felt lost and had the need to remind me of what I am teaching and why, "What's Supposed to Be Going on Here?" gave me the help I wanted. His brilliance is in giving such clear and specific definition to the ever-so-vague term "intellectual freedom." To him, it is simply (of course, is it really that simple?, we may ask) our ability to truly carry out converstations with other minds. We learn to read and write to cultivate this ability, that is, to know what others really mean and to give others what we want to mean. In this definition of "intellectual freedom," intellectual independence comes from the keen awareness of dependence and interconnectedness of ideas. This was something I often mused about since I read it. It would be food for thought for me for some more while as I continue teaching.

A wonderful book

Mr. Booth's book is exquisite--a thoughtful contemplation of what it means to teach English, how one teacher went about doing it, and his reflections on his successes and failures (not too many failures in here; would that we could all teach so well). I felt inspired after reading this book, just in time for the beginning of a new semester, and 50 new students!

How do I begin to describe the power of this book? I was at the Oulu library (Finland), spotted an attractive paperback whose title promised something more than light intellectual fare, and I proceeded to read the first page. I must have been there, standing in the middle of the library, absorbed, for something like 30 minutes solid before my wife (who'd been anxiously searching for me) tore me away me away from the most fulfilling "conversation" I've had in yonks. This happened to be my first and most formative encounter with Booth's delightful, witty and utterly engaging manner. I'll never forget it. The powerful insights coupled with a disarming style is one of the many features that has made Booth a favorite among my intellectual friends (in the form of books). Anyone who reads a single page of this fascinating book will recognize that he or she is in the presence of an accomplished rhetorician. It is a pleasure and an inspiration to "dialogue" with such a writer-thinker, deeply engaged as he is with a subject that he loves so passionately and shares so eloquently.

Lewis Latham has served for some time in the role of 'a voice crying in the wilderness'. I am often amazed of the breadth of his historical perspective and his currently 'unamerican' willingness, or rather eagerness, to reach below the surface of events and bring to light essences which an informed and engaged electorate need to be conscious of, but will rarely have the opportunity to consider if they rely solely upon the mainstream U S media for information. A Lewis Latham essay is like a trip to another part of the globe without the jet lag. This collection continues his excellent tradition and the truths contained within, while topical, are timeless in value. If you care about the world and our place in it, and you wish to be challenged to reconsider your assumptions about reality, reading Mr. Latham is a must.

Most political books are either so slanted and partisan they induce literary vomiting, or so bland and general they say nothing at all. This book is well written, well researched and just funny. Sarcasm in its highest form paralells the very literature it mocks, and this book succeeds in that. To anyone who enjoys the sport of Americna politics, or just wonders where this democracy-on-prozac is headed, I highly recomend it.
